50
years of life. What future for the European Union?
In its 50 years of life Europe has demonstrated
to have an important transformative power, the so-called
"soft power". Looking at the decline of popularity of
the
US in the world, at the success of the European enlargement
and at the way Africa, Asia and South America are following
the example of the EU, it’s widely recognized that the
EU has the power to shape societies without using aggression,
just coming into contact with them.
In a vast and globalized world, the EU
democratic system gives voice to each Member State in the
international panorama and provides its members with the
benefits of being part of the largest market in the world.
Moreover, Europe in just half a century
has made peace among its Member States, it has moved from
having a GDP half the size of America's to one the same
size, and it has dragged some countries into democracy.
But in spite of these positive achievements, today European
public opinion is quite negative.
The
EU attracts many countries, but sometimes its own citizens
are doubtful and they feel a sense of failure. How could
you explain that?
"United
in diversity" is the motto of the European Union. Will Europe
ever be really united in diversity?
What
future do you imagine for Europe? Which hopes? Which fears?
Non riesco a pensare un mondo senza Europa. Mi stupisce che una idea politica così innovativa e vitale non animi la discussione su come vogliamo essere europei anche nelle singole nazioni e non solo a Bruxelles.

In linea teorica sarei d'accordo anche io per un'Europa a 2 velocità, ma in pratica sarebbe difficile. Che facciamo, mandiamo un Ministro degli Esteri europeo a negoziare solo per una parte dell'UE?
Quello che è preoccupante è che i nostri politici hanno dato dimostrazione di essere interessati solo a tutelare l'esclusivo interesse del proprio paese. E allora mi chiedo: ma l'hanno letto l'ultimo Eurobarometro? (http://ec.europa.eu/italia/news/1134980fa4b.html)

Parlare di "compromesso al ribasso" mi sembra ottimistico. Io direi pure che i risultati dell'ultimo summit europeo sono stati DELUDENTI!!
Ho capito bene??? Hanno rinnegato pure la bandiera e l'inno??? Non era forse meglio andare avanti con i Paesi che ci credono veramente? L'Europa a 2 velocità mi sembra la cosa migliore, altrimenti rimarremo sempre in balìa degli umori e degli interessi della Polonia o dell'Inghilterra di turno
