I think that Lithuania is still regarded as “second-rate” in the EU. Our students think that Lithuania is not under-developed, but when you meet and talk to someone, they still think we are part of Russia. Other nations of the EU don’t even know we exist at all. Some people in Spain we are still in the Soviet Union. And in text books and maps of other countries they still have Lithuania as part of the Soviet Union, but not as a separate independent state.
Being a part of the EU could help to prove other nations we are an independent country, which is doing its best to be good at sports, science doing well in developing new technologies etc. The respondents think that there’s still a gap of information about new member states in other EU countries. Children in schools of Lithuania get knowledge and information about history and geography of all the nations of the world, while other countries mostly concentrate on the history of their own.
Mūsų šalies mokyklose mokoma viso pasaulio istorija, o kitose šalyse mokiniai mokosi daugiau tik savo šalies istoriją.(more)(less)

We could be like, e.g. United Kingdom or Denmark- they have their national currency, and we have our LITAS. We don’t need other. It is like a wife- every man has his wife, and every country has its own currency…
Common currency for all EU countries means making them more or less unified. It is convenient if you travel. You don’t need to exchange your money… But to loose our own national currency- will it be positive for Lithuanian economy? I doubt…
Patogu tuo atveju, jeigu važiuoji i kitą Šalį nereikia keisti valiutos. Bet savos valiutos praradimas AR bus naudingas Lietuvai?!(more)(less)

Marianne, a schoolteacher from England, says that she likes to visit Europe because of the cultural differences, to see historic sites, and to explore the historical links between countries, especially Britain and France. Maaike, a student from Amsterdam, says that Europe is a very old continent with a long history and so much to discover, and she likes to see the many cultural differences; after high school she took time out to travel through Europe instead of going to Australia like many other students did. She thinks that the Eastern European countries are really fascinating and would like to visit them too.

First of all I want to congratulate all the project people doing this job, which is so important for all European citizens and for each country. Conversations, discussions, educating and informing people as well as mutual understanding is the main life-force in today’s Europe, which helps us all to move forward. If a person is to learn more about the world, he has to know his own country, and only then he is capable of talking with the others, of understanding different views. It is only through communication and education that we can learn, understand and develop.(more)(less)
